Resignation of the Slovak Minister of Health due to anti-vaxxers in the commission investigating pandemic measures

Slovak Health Minister Zuzana Dolinkova has announced that she is stepping down from that position due to the government’s support for a prominent anti-vaxxer and insufficient prioritization of health care.

“I regret that at the level of the government coalition there is support for the ideas of the government representative, which, in my opinion, do not find scientific support,” Dolinkova said at the press conference and added that she will officially resign in the coming days.

Peter Kotlar, the government envoy in charge of investigating the management of the pandemic in Slovakia and one of the most prominent anti-vaxxers in the country, presented his report, which is mostly based on fringe theories, writes Politiko.

The report claims the pandemic was an “act of bioterrorism” and a “bogus operation”.

Shortly after his re-election last year, Prime Minister Robert Fico supported an initiative by the far-right Slovak National Party (SNS), one of the coalition members, to create a commission to investigate pandemic measures.

Fico: Why are all kinds of drugs pushed into people?

“The Slovak public simply needs an answer about vaccination, why people were vaccinated with various experimental vaccines without any tests, why all kinds of drugs were pushed into people…and what actually happened during covid,” said Fico, who was critical of masks and vaccines during pandemic.

Kotlar, who hails from the SNS, was appointed to his envoy’s post in January. In his report, Kotlar recommended that the government end vaccination with mRNA vaccines and refuse to sign a global agreement on the pandemic, as well as updated World Health Organization regulations.

Slovakia’s health ministry did not specifically comment on the report, but on Thursday said in a statement — read aloud in parliament — that it always “relies on scientific facts and findings.”

“The Ministry of Health has taken measures to expand the vaccination network. “Registration for vaccination is voluntary and the ministry wants to provide the opportunity to vaccinate all residents of the Slovak Republic,” the announcement states.

Dolinkova, from the social democratic party Hlas (Voice), said she did not feel enough political support to continue.

The minister was criticized by both the government and the opposition for her poor work. She survived one vote of no confidence, and the opposition submitted another request for her removal at the beginning of September.
