A fire broke out in a forest area in Köseli Neighborhood at 03:35 for an unknown reason.
Upon notification, the Regional Directorate of Forestry teams and 350 personnel, 5 helicopters, 2 extinguishing planes, 29 water trucks, 14 first response vehicles, 15 water supply vehicles, 16 water tanks and 8 construction machines were directed to the region.
Teams are continuing their efforts from air and land to bring the fire under control.
The flames are spreading due to the wind, making it difficult for crews to work.
– GOVERNOR KÖŞGER VISITED THE COORDINATION CENTER
Governor Yavuz Selim Köşger visited the coordination center established in the fire zone and received information about the extinguishing efforts.
Making a statement to reporters after his investigation, Köşger said that the cause of the flames was being investigated.
Stating that the intervention is ongoing, Köşger continued as follows:
“It is understood that the fire broke out very close to a residential area. As of now, we are responding to the fire with 5 helicopters, 2 planes, nearly 350 personnel and 93 vehicles. Our forestry organization, AFAD, fire department, ASKİ, Metropolitan Municipality, all institutions are mobilized. They are doing their best to prevent the fire. As of now, we have brought the fire under control in a way that will not harm residential areas, but we have not yet moved on to the stage of completely extinguishing it. It can be said that it is ‘partially under control’. The fire continues in certain areas. Hopefully, our friends evaluate that we will be able to bring it under complete control in a short time.”
Governor Köşger stated that the wind was effective in the region in the morning hours and said, “One of the unfortunate things in the morning was that when the fire broke out, there was a wind speed of 25 kilometers and then 35 kilometers. Now the effect of the wind has decreased a little. Therefore, interventions from the air and land were able to become quite effective. We estimate that we will be able to extinguish it in the shortest time.”
– AFFECTED AGRICULTURAL AND FOREST AREAS
Referring to the damaged settlements, Köşger explained the following:
“There are 3 huts and one room in the house that were damaged in the fire. Thank God, no one was harmed. We have no loss of life, we are grateful for that. God willing, we will compensate for those small losses. Apart from that, there is no damage other than forest assets so far. It is estimated that 15 hectares of agricultural land and around 30-35 hectares of forest land were damaged in the fire. There are olive groves that were damaged. God willing, we will put out the fire before there is more damage.”
