Rimac is developing a single-seater track-only hypercar

The CEO Mate Rimac confirmed on Friday to Engine1 his intention to build a hypercar exclusively for the track with a single central seat.

“We decided not to limit ourselves to pushing the limits of road cars, but to also race on the track,” Rimac told Engine1. “We are building a track car, a single-seater which will be faster than any racing car on most circuits. Faster than Formula 1, faster than Le Mans.”

New platform for the track

This type of car represents a big change for the Croatian brand, which previously built only two-seater electric cars for the road. Rimac added that the car will have a closed cockpit in soft top style and will not be based on the Nevera, but on its own distinct platform.

“We will probably show it this year and do the first track events next year,” Rimac told Engine1.

Aim for new records

When asked if he plans to launch a specific series with the car, Mate replied that the company intends to first establish some new records. The CEO confirmed to Engine1 that the single-seater will be a track-only vehicle, with no road-going intentions. But it will not even conform to any existing regulations.

“The safety is there, but everything else? There are no rules,” Rimac said. “It will go beyond the rules of Formula 1 or LMP.”

News of a new Rimac comes just hours after the brand unveiled its latest creation, the Nevera R. A more focused version of the all-electric hypercar, the Nevera R delivers a 2.107 CVwith a claimed 0-60 time of 1.74 seconds, a quarter-mile time of 8.23 seconds, and a top speed of 255 mph. We can only imagine how much faster things could be without the constraints of road rules.
