Rivian announced reduced 3rd quarter sales and production numbers

Rivian today announced its production and delivery numbers for the third quarter of this year. More specifically, the American company reports that it manufactured 13,157 vehicles from July to September, when in the second quarter 9,612 vehicles had left its factory and 13,980 vehicles in the first quarter of 2024.

In addition, the American company delivered 10,018 vehicles, a number that translates into a 27% decrease compared to the 2nd quarter of the year (13,790 deliveries), while a corresponding decrease is also noted in the sales of the first quarter of 2024 (13,588 deliveries).

The American automaker attributed the lower-than-expected production numbers to the lack of a key, unspecified component shared by the R1T, R1S and commercial electric van, all of which feature this important part.

Originally, Rivian had set a production target of 57,000 vehicles for 2024, the same number it had achieved in 2023. However, it has updated its forecast and now expects to finish the year having delivered between 50,500 and 52,000 vehicles to its customers.

The financial impact of these production slowdowns and reduced deliveries will be known when Rivian’s financial results are announced on November 7.
