connect check: very good || The Roborock Qrevo Slim impressed in the test: It offers all the latest features such as an extendable mop and a flexible side brush, mop cleaning with hot water and very good obstacle detection. It is also nice and flat and can therefore also fit under deep furniture. The very good app offers many options for customization.
The current upper class of vacuum robots can do almost anything, except usually not go under deep furniture – the structure on top of the device, which contains a rotating LiDAR sensor for navigation, is too high for that. Roborock solves this problem with its “autonomous StarSight system”. This combines a double light solid-state LiDAR with 3D ToF technology and is integrated in the housing: There are two LiDAR sensors at the front next to an infrared camera and an RGB camera, and an infrared cam at the back, which is supplemented by a LiDAR. Advantage: There is no laser tower on top of the housing, so the Qrevo Slim has a slim height of 8.2 centimeters. This allows it to go under furniture that other vacuum cleaners would happily turn away from.
How well does the Roborock Qrevo Slim navigate?
But does the technology work as well as we know from LiDAR towers? After integrating it into the app and our WiFi, we first started the quick mapping. The bot drives through the rooms without a cleaning function, scans the surroundings and creates a map. The job was done quickly: After a few minutes, the Roborock reported completion and returned to the base station.
An excellent start: the correct floor plan with rooms differentiated by color appeared in the clearly arranged app, which was beautifully designed with pretty animations. Only the name wasn’t entirely correct, the hallway was declared a kitchen. This is not a problem and is quickly fixed in the app. Here you can edit the map as usual: rename rooms, separate or merge rooms if necessary and set up no-go zones.
Base with large water tanks
During the mapping we filled the large fresh water tank in the base station. Like the container for dirty water, it is freely accessible, so you don’t have to open the flap, you can just pull the things out using the handle – that’s a matter of taste, we like the solution. The black color is also stylish, but has the disadvantage that the inevitable dust is clearly visible.
When registering, Roborock recommends using the in-house SmartPlan. The robot determines with what intensity it vacuums and mops where. If you prefer to decide for yourself, you can select a program and set the parameters separately for each room – little water on parquet, more on tiles.
Smart carpet mode
The Qrevo Slim reliably detects carpets thanks to ultrasonic sensors and switches on the booster if desired. He can also lift his mops so that short-pile specimens don’t get wet. Delicate carpets can be completely excluded from wet cleaning.
The vacuum can also lift its floor brushes while mopping. Roborock once again works with two reels that rotate in opposite directions. The Roborock is not better than the very good one-roller vacuum cleaners from the competition, but with its maximum suction power of 11,000 Pa, it is sufficiently motorized to reliably pick up any dirt. Other manufacturers offer significantly more here, but it’s like megapixels in smartphone cameras: It’s good as a number, but it’s not really needed.
Lots of options for fine-tuning
Another extra: In the Roborock app, you can set the floor material and, in the case of wood, the laying direction for each room. This is intended to ensure gentler cleaning of the seams. In general, the app offers a huge number of settings with which you can personalize the cleaning – for example, cleaning the kitchen and dining area after meals at the touch of a button. Pet owners can have increased cleaning around the dog bed, feeding station, etc.
The Qrevo Slim is not particularly quiet: you can hear it clearly when it is working. The extendable side brush sometimes rattles loudly when it hits furniture parts or low skirting boards. And blow-drying the mops in the base should not be done next to the bed at night.
Clean the mops regularly
Speaking of mops: The robot returns to the base at definable intervals to rinse the mops. A sensor monitors the contamination of the wastewater and adjusts the cleaning time accordingly. During the pit stop, the small internal water container in the robot is also filled up – this ensures that the wipers are evenly moistened along the way. However, the base does not have space for a bottle of cleaning agent.
The rotating mops apply pressure to the floor, removing fresh stains very well. If there are dried leftovers, you may have to rework them by hand, just like with the competition.
Wash the mops at 60 degrees and blow dry them
At the end of a cleaning task, the wipers are rinsed with 60 degree hot water and then dried with hot air. You can also set the time here – two, three or four hours. We chose three hours and at the end the mops were clean and dry. The contents of the dust container are sucked into a large bag that sits behind a cover plate in the base – so you don’t have to worry about anything. The base plate in the base can be cleaned automatically using an app command. Or you can simply take out the insert and rinse it briefly (see picture above).
The mop and brush swing out
The Qrevo Slim proceeds with a plan when cleaning: you can determine the order of the rooms. The bot then goes room by room, first cleaning the edges and then scanning the floor area. Then we move on to the next room. The Roborock shows off its flexible technology: the right mop, like the side brush, extends when necessary so that it can reach corners and edges better. This offers a clear advantage over models with static components. If it is dark, an LED switches on automatically and illuminates the floor.
Great obstacle detection
The obstacle detection works great, the Qrevo Slim brakes in good time in front of furniture and approaches it carefully. The camera detects 73 types of obstacles, shoes, toys, etc. are reliably detected and avoided, cables remain lying. The Roborock avoids pets – if the fur nose is not frightened but is looking to attack, the bot will lose out here.
If you want, you can activate the camera to take your own photos and use it to keep an eye on the apartment or take snapshots of your pet. Also good: The most important functions of the Qrevo Slim can be controlled via voice command. An integration of the comprehensive home networking standard Matter is planned.
