At the same time that the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, is visiting Tel Aviv, the air alarms have been activated in the Israeli coastal city on Wednesday morning.
It happened after rockets were fired from Lebanon towards Tel Aviv.
This is written by the Reuters news agency.
The rockets were shot down by the Israeli Air Force, Israel’s military says, and there are no reports of injuries.
Several US officials and foreign journalists had to leave the breakfast restaurant at the hotel where Antony Blinken is staying and rush into a shelter when the air-raid alarms were activated, Reuters reports.
It is unknown where Blinken himself was at the time in question.
Shortly before, two drones were sent off towards Eilat, located in southernmost Israel next to the Red Sea.
The drones were shot down by the Israeli military.
The militant movement Islamic Resistance in Iraq claims to be behind the drone attack on Eilat.
Neither in Eilat, which, like Tel Aviv, is usually a favorite holiday destination for both Israelis and foreigners, have there been any reports of injuries.
Antony Blinken is on a week-long trip in the Middle East and will continue on Wednesday from Israel to Saudi Arabia.
Before leaving for Saudi Arabia, he called on Israel on Wednesday morning to focus on ending the war in Gaza and getting the hostages home.
He also said that Israel has ensured that an attack like the one carried out by the militant movement Hamas against Israel on October 7, 2023 cannot happen again.
Blinken referred to the fact that Israel has killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, believed to be the mastermind behind the October 7 attack, and that much of Hamas’s infrastructure in Gaza has been destroyed during the war.
“Now it is time to turn these successes into a sustained strategic success”.
“The focus must be on bringing the hostages home, ending the war and making a clear plan for what will happen afterwards,” said the foreign minister, according to Reuters.
The purpose of Blinken’s trip to the Middle East is to revive negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza.
