Rod Stewart will lose $300,000 for performing at Glastonbury Festival

Rod Stewart announced that he will perform at Glastonbury Festival in 2025, but discovers that he will lose money for performing at this prestigious event. Namely, on November 26, Stewart is the first announced performer for the next edition of the Somerset Festival. The rock icon will perform on Sunday afternoon (June 30, 2025) at the Pyramid Stage-u in the famous “legends slot”, which was previously occupied by Shania Twain in 2024 and Cat Stevens in 2023.

Stewart was already the star of the Pyramid Stage in 2002, and his performance in 2025 will go down in Glastonbury Festival history, as he will be the first performer who, after being the headliner, will now occupy the “legends slot”. Following the announcement that he would be performing at Glastonbury Festival, Stewart took to Instagram to say: “I am extremely excited to announce that I will be performing at Glastonbury Festival 2025! After all these years, I’m proud and ready to get back on stage and entertain my friends at Glastonbury in June. See you there!”

In a new interview on TalkSport on November 27, Stewart talked about his future gig. Asked by host Alan Brazil if he had considered the Glastonbury offer, Stewart said he knew “instantly” he would accept it, adding: “It’s a huge honour.” However, he also revealed the financial aspect of the decision, saying: “It’s going to cost me entire fortune – 300,000 dollars. I have to bring all my band members back from America and Glastonbury isn’t paying for it. But I wouldn’t change my mind for a second, even if it cost me a million dollars. This is a great honor.”

Glastonbury is known to pay less to performers than other major festivals, instead diverting the money to charity. Nevertheless, some of the world’s biggest names are still happy to accept to perform because of the prestige of this festival. Although Stewart will lose $300,000 for the show, being able to play in the “legends slot” will add to his reputation and will likely recoup a significant portion of the money through ticket sales or increased streams.

At this stage, Stewart is the only confirmed name for Glastonbury 2025. However, there is speculation that headliners could include Sam Fender, who is due to release his much-anticipated third album ‘People Watching’ on 21 February 2025, as well as Olivia Rodrigo, who will to be in the UK for concerts in Manchester during Glastonbury. There is also speculation about Stevie Wonder, The 1975 and Lady Gaga as possible stars of the festival.

For 2024, Glastonbury waited until March to announce the line-up, so it is likely that this year they will keep the names a secret for a few more months.
