Sport Lisboa e Benfica SAD informed the Securities Market Commission this Saturday that it is in negotiations with coach Roger Schmidt regarding his departure from the club.

The club from Luz communicates the decision after this Friday Benfica drew with Moreirense in the game for the national championship.
Roger Schmidt arrived at Benfica in the summer of 2022 and in his debut season he was crowned national champion.
The newspaper Record recalls that in the following season, in 2023/24, criticism from Benfica fans began to increase in tone as the team showed signs of beginning to decline in performance. Even so, the reds finished the championship in 2nd place, behind Sporting, guaranteeing qualification for this year’s Champions League.
The publication also highlights that the disastrous start to the current season (only two wins in the first four rounds, with a defeat against Famalicão and a draw with Moreirense) ended up being the end of the line for the German coach.
