The Ministry of Energy of Romania, as part of its efforts to realize the objectives of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), has made some progress in its implementation through the signing of several contracts related to energy storage and the production of photovoltaic panels. The production of solar panels on European soil is an issue of great importance for the development of the green technology industry of domestic European companies.

The Minister of Energy, Sebastijan Burduž, pointed out that energy storage is set as a fundamental priority in the national energy system, and with the new contracts, Romania will meet 20 percent of its needs for energy storage, according to the website of the Ministry of Energy of Romania.

Every new green project and the production of green kilowatts, in order to be really effectively used during the year, should be stored, especially when there are more of these projects, which is why battery systems are a logical sequence when it comes to this topic.

Energy storage projects

Minister Burduž signed contracts for five projects with a total capacity of 791.48 MWh, supported by funds from PNRR in the amount of more than 30 million euros. These projects cover different districts of Romania – Jalomica, Đurđa, two projects in Mures district, and one in Karas-Severin district. Individual projects range from 79.24 MWh in the Mureš district to 299.75 MWh of capacity in the Jalomica district, where state aid will amount to around 9.89 million euros.

In this competition, 118 projects were registered, of which 38 were approved, while pre-contract notices have already been sent for 13 projects.

Support for the production of photovoltaic panels

In addition to the storage projects, the Romanian Minister Burduž also signed a contract that will enable the construction of a factory for the production of photovoltaic panels, thus working on the revitalization of the Romanian industry but following today’s needs. SC HELIOMIT SRL will build a solar panel factory in Barlad, Vasluj district, with state aid of around 33 million euros and a capacity of 1,500 MW/year. Such a project positions Romania as a potential supplier for the European market, which is contrary to the current situation of dominance of imports, especially from China, when it comes to panels.
