Romania received a new solar park with an energy storage system

In Sarmasag, Salaj district, the “Sarmasag” solar park was inaugurated, which represents a significant step towards Romania’s energy transition.

The new solar plant, with an installed capacity of 51.4 MW, includes an advanced energy storage system in batteries with a capacity of 22 MWh. The investment worth 52.5 million euros was financed with the support of the Ministry of Energy through National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), with grants of 13.7 million euros.

During the opening ceremony of the solar park, Minister of Energy Sebastijan Burduja emphasized the importance of storing renewable energy in batteries, stressing that such projects contribute to reducing pressure and instability in the energy system.

Burduja reminded that at the end of 2023, the Ministry of Energy signed almost 300 contracts for the development of 1,800 MW of new green energy capacities in Romania and pointed out that such investments bring significant benefits for consumers and the state.

Photovoltaic Park “Sarmasag” provides answers to current challenges in the energy sector, combining energy production and storage, which increases the stability of the system and encourages further investment in renewable energy sources, according to the Ministry’s announcement.

National Recovery and Resilience Plan

The Ministry of Energy of Romania recently signed the first contracts within the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) for the development of capacity for electricity storage and production of solar panels.

Two financing contracts, worth over six million euros, will support energy storage projects with a capacity of almost 131 MWh.

Also, a contract worth almost four million euros was signed for the construction of a solar panel factory with the aim of reducing dependence on the import of solar technology.
