Romania has allocated an additional amount of electricity to the Republic of Moldova, to help it overcome the problem related to the cessation of gas supplies from Russia.
Romania delivered an additional 400 MW, for January 7, 2025, the website announced Deschide.md.
“The commercial capacity available for import from Romania through the ENTSO-E network was sufficient to cover the forecasted demand. An additional allocation of 400 MW, for January 7, contributed to the consolidation of energy security”, stated a press release from the Chisinau government.
The day before, on January 6, 2025, more than half of the electricity consumption of the Republic of Moldova had been provided by imports from Romania. More precisely, the “electricity import balance (MD/RO)” represented 55.83 percent of the total energy consumed.
On the other hand, in Transnistria, the energy problems are getting worse. Starting January 7, 2025, “scheduled power outages have doubled and will occur twice a day for 4 hours each.” “The reason for the revision of the graph is the imbalance between consumption and production of energy resources”, the Government of the Republic of Moldova said.
