Romania could receive a new medal following the Olympic Games in Paris. Convinced that she deserves the bronze, Sabrina Voinea uses all the levers at her disposal.
This placed fourth in the floor final, but conjures up a number of images, such as so did Jordan Chiles. One thing is certain: the case is getting more complicated every day.
The American is based on a documentary produced by Netflix, with another major athlete, Simone Biles, as the protagonist. From there, according to his words, it appears that the coaches challenged the score without exceeding the time required by the regulation.
Sabrina Voinea does not give up the bronze medal
Since she did not win the case at the TAS, Sabrina Voinea addressed the Swiss Federal Court, and now she has come up with a new approach. It is about a review request, also at the supreme court, which thus has no less than five lawsuits pending regarding the bronze in the floor event, awarded to another Romanian gymnast, Ana Bărbosu.
“It is true that last week I submitted a review request on behalf of Sabrina Voinea. We seek to prove that the sportswoman’s rights were prejudiced by a system of the International Federation, which did not provide the referees with sufficient objective elements to make a decision in accordance with reality.
Both procedures have the same finality, the annulment of the arbitral award regarding Sabrina Voinea. There is, however, a procedural distinction. The appeal is limited by the Swiss legislature and covers the elements considered by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne. The review refers to aspects that happened before the pronouncement of the judgment that could not, for objective reasons, be submitted to the TAS”, explained Sabin Gherdan, Sabrina Voinea’s lawyer, for gsp.ro.
Romania requested that all three sportswomen be medaled
Shortly after the floor event final of the Olympic Games, Romania appealed to TASciting that both athletes were disadvantaged. Even Jordan Chiles was called for the bronze medal.
“We asked for a bronze medal for all three (No. Sabrina Voinea, Ana Bărbosu and Jordan Chiles). We asked for three bronze medals to be awarded: the American, because it is an earned right and the judgment happens after she has earned this right and it is not her fault that there were refereeing mistakes. We want bronze, because both of our athletes were wronged”, said the president of the Romanian Gymnastics Federation, Carmencita Constantin for iamsport.ro.
