On the 12th, Rotary Korea announced that it held the ‘2024 Joint Scholarship Delivery Ceremony’ with the Rotary Korea Scholarship and Cultural Foundation at the Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul and delivered a total of 5.1 billion won in scholarships to 2,450 college students nationwide selected from each district.

The event was attended by Sang-koo Yoon, president of the Rotary Korea Centennial Memorial Association, who was appointed as the world president of Rotary International for 2026-27, as well as Korean Rotary leaders, governors and future governors of each district, and officials from the Scholarship Foundation. On this day, the scholarship was delivered to Governor Song Won-woo of District 3661, Rotary International’s 2024-25 president, and scholarship certificates were also awarded to scholarship students from all over the country who were invited and attended the event.

Since its establishment in 1973, the Korea Rotary Scholarship and Cultural Foundation has supported a total of 141.7 billion won in scholarships to approximately 72,000 students over the 51 years since its establishment in 1973. With the election of Rotary International President Sang-gu Yoon, the second Korean, as the world president for 2026-27, the scholarship system, which had been selecting scholarship students only domestically, was revised to select approximately 200 global scholarship students from overseas each year, and the selection targets were expanded to overseas as well. It was expanded to include descendants of Korean War veterans. This year, Chairman Sang-gu Yoon personally presented the scholarship to Rachel Shenkute (Myongji University Graduate School), a scholarship student from Ethiopia, as the first descendant of Korean War veterans.
