Round 1 will be the real final

“I started from the working hypothesis that not having an important party behind me or not having the resources of the parties, it will be more difficult. But even according to Romanian standards, I think that this campaign is uglier, bordering on filth, denigration, compromise and a kind of twinning between those outside, mainly from Russia, who are unhappy to see a man from NATO leading Romania, and those from the parties at home, who are unhappy to see an independent president who spoils their games and agreements , both from outside and at home, a lot of opposition, a lot of intoxication, a lot of lies, but we are moving forward and I am convinced that Romanian women and men, including from Moldova and Iași, will be able to make a correct choice”, declared Mircea Geoană.

He urged the electorate to vote from the first round of the presidential elections.

“I say only one thing, the option of an already pre-arranged final between Ciolacu and Simion would be a deeply wrong thing for Romania, for our democracy, for the pro-Western direction and I appeal to all those who want to have a useful vote to think in the first round, in a way that is unprecedented in these years of Romanian democracy. The first round is the real final of the presidential campaign. So come to the vote as far as possible and vote with who you think is the one more suitable to lead Romania,” Mircea Geoană told journalists.

He mentioned that he chose to start his electoral campaign in Iasi not by chance, but as a sign of respect for the Romanians in this region and to make a commitment to them. “From the intense desire I have, and commitment to raise Moldova, which from the Union of Principalities pays the bill, in a way, towards Bucharest. The time has come to raise this part of the country as well (…) I came and sentimental, and political, and moral here in Iaşi on the first day of the campaign to say that the time has come to do justice to Moldova and to be able to pay for the contract not honored by Bucharest 160 years ago,” said the former secretary general deputy of NATO.

He also mentioned the need to reduce the development gaps between the east of Romania and the other areas of the country.

“It will be hard work, it won’t be easy. There are many gaps in development. There is a lot of poverty, there are many problems to be solved if, indeed, Bucharest would become more professional and more honest in supporting Romanian Moldova. I think that the eight counties and 4 million Romanian citizens from Romanian Moldova should have a fair chance of not being among the last regions in Europe. It is not fair for such an important area for us. We deliberately chose Iasi for the first campaign day to send a message here, in Romanian Moldova, and in Bessarabia, and to the Romanians in Ukraine, that they too need our support, and they must be treated more respectfully by the government in Kiev,” he said Mircea Geoană.

He participated in the first part of Friday at the Trilateral Economic Forum for business and reconstruction in Ukraine “IAŞI – Strategic Regional Hub Romania – Republic of Moldova – Ukraine”. Also, Geoană has scheduled a debate with the citizens of Iaşi county, on the occasion of the launch of the political offer – “My Commitment to Romania”.
