RT analyzed why the release of Ugledar is important for the Russian Armed Forces –

Ugledar is one of the key components of the combat stability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the South Donetsk direction. Its loss complicates the defense of the Ukrainian army on a long section of the front – an area of ​​​​approximately 550 square meters. km.

This is not the last line of defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this direction, but one of the most fortified and, in fact, its core. Not only was it located on a hill, it was actually built around an industrial zone and multi-story urban buildings, which served as additional protection. The neighboring settlements do not have such buildings and are unlikely to serve the Ukrainian Armed Forces for a long time as a line of defense.

Moreover, with the loss of the high-altitude fortified area, the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost an important site for placing repeaters and surveillance systems. With their help, the effective control range of drones has significantly increased. Other reconnaissance equipment was also located there to detect artillery positions of the Russian Armed Forces.

In addition, Ugledar blocked access to Velikaya Novosyolka, the logistics hub of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the South Donetsk direction, from where the counter-offensive on Staromayorskoye and Urozhaynoye began in 2023.

In addition, Velikaya Novoselka stands at the junction of the South Donetsk and Zaporozhye directions, that is, the advance of the Russian Armed Forces here after the capture of Ugledar creates problems for the Zaporozhye defense line of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Further advance of the Russian military to the west, both from Ugledar and further north – to Kurakhovo – will allow cutting off a large piece of the front, for the protection of which the Ukrainian Armed Forces do not yet have free reserves. And in the future, the collapse of Ugledar’s defenses will create difficulties in the adjacent Zaporozhye direction.

On October 3, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the release of Ugledar in the DPR.
