The RTL Group has streaming platforms in several countries, but they are not based on the same technology. That is changing – with consequences for jobs in Germany.
The RTL Group is standardizing the technology behind its streaming platforms in several countries and is cutting jobs in Germany as a result. According to an internal communication from RTL, which dpa has seen, the German streaming platform RTL+ is expected to switch to the French technology company Bedrock in the technology area at the beginning of 2026.
The company is a joint venture between the RTL Group and the French group M6, in which RTL also holds shares. The move is intended to help make the German RTL streaming business profitable. The whole thing is also intended to save costs.
RTL wants to cut staff in Germany
RTL stresses that the plans are subject to discussions with works councils. This is because the step will have consequences for employees in Germany. RTL Germany is planning to cut staff. The television group did not reveal how many jobs will be cut. Bedrock will have a German subsidiary based in Cologne. Part of the current RTL+ technical team will work there in the future. RTL Germany is to become a direct shareholder in Bedrock, which has its headquarters in Paris.
