In January, RTL will broadcast “Our Team – The Home European Championship 2024” at prime time. The format was produced in collaboration with the DFB.

In the summer, RTL, as a private broadcaster, showed some live games from the European Football Championship in its own country. On free TV, live rights were still held by ARD and ZDF, all games were available live on MagentaTV. In this respect, RTL was a EM broadcaster and is now following up in January. Before the Germans’ Nations League game on Saturday evening, the broadcaster announced that it had bought the broadcasting rights to “Our Team – The Home European Championship 2024”. The production will run linearly on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at prime time, i.e. at 8:15 p.m. In addition, RTL can make the documentary available for viewing on RTL+ at a flexible time.

“The European Championships in Germany were a huge party in which RTL, as the broadcasting station, was very happy to be involved. And even if Julian Nagelsmann’s team didn’t make it big, we’re all the more pleased to be able to revive the incomparable spirit of this summer once again,” says RTL Chief Content Officer Inga Leschek. And further: “This documentary shows up close how much fun the entire DFB team had despite all the work and professionalism between the games, how they were able to unite us all behind them again and what emotions there were in the stadiums, in front of the TV sets and in Germany and all of Europe were ignited.”

In 2022, another team accompanied the national team on behalf of Amazon

For a total of 40 days, a camera team accompanied the DFB team through training camps, test matches and the tournament as part of the UEFA EURO 2024 and gave the national players “space for authentic insights into their emotional worlds” in exclusive interviews, as they say. OMR Frames produced the format. Tom Häussler, winner of the German Television Award, acts as showrunner. “Our Team” is the successor to the widely praised “All Or Nothing” documentary from Amazon, which was made during the 2022 Winter World Cup. The DFB is said not to have been that enthusiastic about it – which is why it is not surprising that the DFB has now commissioned this documentary from OMR.

“We had a fantastic summer in which the whole of football Germany supported our team through the tournament. Even though we ended up bitterly eliminated in the quarter-finals, we achieved something great with our football festival together. We would like to thank all fans in Germany for this,” said Andreas Rettig, Managing Director of Sport, DFB GmbH & Co. KG. Meanwhile, RTL promises that “Our Team” will capture how the national team affected the entire spectrum of society, for example at a football evening together in a women’s prison, at a Bundeswehr base in Lithuania and at a lonely lighthouse on the East Frisian coast.
