Russell starts from the pit lane, despite Hamilton’s “sacrifice”.

George Russell will start the United States Grand Prix from the pit lane as Mercedes mechanics worked through the night on repairs to his car before it was sealed in park ferme conditions.

The Briton set the 6th fastest time in yesterday’s qualifying, but his heavy crash at the end of Q3 brought proceedings to an early end at the Circuit of The Americas, with yellow flags preventing other drivers from having the chance to improve times their.

With Mercedes having brought upgrades to Austin, Russell later confirmed that his team would not have enough parts for his car to carry the full upgrade package. However, Russell stressed that Lewis Hamilton – who will start from 19th – offered to provide the required information.

Mercedes, however, confirmed that Russell will start from the pit lane due to the work that needed to be done to repair his car and return to other specifications.
