The Russian Kremlin announced on the 19th that its military delegation is visiting North Korea to implement the agreements reached between President Vladimir Putin and North Korean Workers’ Party General Secretary Kim Jong Un.

According to Reuters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded to a question by saying, “Work is underway to implement the agreements reached during President Putin’s visit to Pyongyang.”

Earlier, the Korean Central News Agency reported that a military delegation led by Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexei Krivoruchko arrived in Pyongyang on the 18th and that General Secretary Kim met with them.

“It was a rich, fruitful and productive visit,” Peskov said. “Currently, both Russia and North Korea are working to implement the agreements, and the visit of our (military) delegation is part of that agreement.”

The Rodong Sinmun, the organ of the North Korean Workers’ Party, reported that at this meeting, there was a shared understanding of the importance and necessity of military cooperation between the two countries to protect each other’s security interests.

This is the first high-level Russian military visit to North Korea since the summit between General Secretary Kim and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Pyongyang last month.

Earlier, a delegation of People’s Army military education workers (cadres) led by Kim Kum-chol, president of Kim Il-sung Military University, was dispatched to Russia on the 8th.

North Korea and Russia have been continuing military cooperation since signing the ‘Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement’ last month, including sending military delegations. However, they have not disclosed the specifics of what they discussed.
