Russia says it prevented massive attack by Ukrainian drones

Russian anti-aircraft defense forces intercepted and shot down 83 Ukrainian drones overnight in five Russian regions and the annexed Crimean peninsula, according to the Ministry of Defense.

In a note published on Telegram, the Russian command reported that it shot down 36 drones over the Kursk border region, partially occupied by the Ukrainian army since August.

Russian anti-aircraft defenses also shot down 20 drones over the Bryansk region, eight in Voronez, four in the Oryol region and another three in Belgorod.

According to Moscow, another 12 drones were shot down over the Crimean peninsula.

Minutes earlier, the governor of the southern Russian region of Stávropol, Vladimir Vladimirov, reported on Telegram the impact of a Ukrainian drone on a fuel depot in the city of Svetlograd, without causing any casualties.

On Wednesday, Russia denied the existence of negotiations with Ukraine to put an end to mutual attacks on energy infrastructure and highlighted that press releases to that effect “do not correspond to reality”.

However, Ukraine is open to the possibility of putting an end to these attacks, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said last week.

“We don’t attack their energy infrastructure and they don’t attack ours. Could this lead to an end to the hot phase of the war? I think so,” Zelensky said in a meeting with journalists.
