Russia to Ban Sale of GPS Jammers Without Defense Ministry Permission

In Russia, it will be necessary to obtain permission from the Ministry of Defense to purchase GPS/GLONASS jammers, Izvestia reports.

This innovation is contained in the draft resolution of the State Commission on Radio Frequencies (SCRF), whose meeting is scheduled for the end of July.

It is assumed that the Defense Ministry’s permission will have to be attached to the application for frequencies for the “jammer” in the State Commission on Radio Frequencies. We are talking about frequencies of 1164-1300 MHz, which are used by military and civilian aircraft, as well as 1559-1610 MHz (GPS, GLONASS and Chinese Beidou).

The new rules are primarily aimed at regulating frequencies to suppress UAV attacks.

The State Commission on Radio Frequencies is not responsible for regulating sales of UAV suppression equipment. Only for issues related to frequencies for their use.

Ministry of Digital Development

GPS jammers are now sold freely and their operation is almost not regulated. The devices began to be bought up en masse in Russia after drone attacks.

People and businesses have started buying up such devices en masse against the backdrop of news about drones shot down over Russian territory. Without technical qualifications, they are capable of causing harm to other users of the radio frequency spectrum: from airports to special services.

The expert is confident that it will not be difficult for conscientious users of UAV jammers to obtain permission from the Ministry of Defense to use them. (News)
