Russia uses bombers received from Ukraine in 1999

Russia uses at least six bombers it received from Ukraine 25 years ago. An investigation by Ukrainian journalists revealed that the old planes are still being used by the Russians. The planes were given by the Ukrainians in exchange for paying off some debts.

The investigation showed that Tu-160 strategic bombers are used by the Russian army, according to Sky News as quoted by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

The planes were handed over in 1999 in exchange for repayment of Ukraine’s debt for imported Russian gas, the Ukrainians claim.

To confirm the information, the Ukrainian military intelligence agency GUR compared the serial numbers of bombers in service in Russia with aviation records and registers.
