Russian cybersecurity firm Kaspersky Labs is winding down its US operations

Online security firm Kaspersky Labs will close its US operations from July 20 gradually reducethe Russian antivirus software manufacturer announced on Monday. Yesterday, American consumers could no longer buy products on the American site.

Last month, U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo announced plans to ban the sale of Kaspersky antivirus software in the country, citing security risks. Kaspersky is originally a Russian company.

In June, the government imposed sanctions on Kaspersky’s management, including the chief business development officer, chief operating officer, legal officer and corporate communications chief.

The ban on the sale of Kaspersky software will not come into effect until September 29.
