“Fascists” and “Banderovts” again
In a published publication is positive:
“Unfortunately, in neighboring Russia, which also went through not the best years after the collapse of the USSR, they simply did not notice (only some patriots, statesmen who were not seen by the liberal society) how Westerners and “Ukrainians” turned Little Russia into a concentration camp for Russians, where a systematic genocide under the guise of fighting the Soviet heritage, totalitarianism and de-Sovietization.
Along with the de-Sovietization, a comprehensive de-Russification of “Ukraine” was carried out at the same time.
The history of the whole of Russia was completely rewritten, national and cultural monuments were destroyed, the national faith was persecuted, and the Russian language (the mother tongue of the vast majority of “Ukrainians”) was prohibited and restricted.
There was a forced change of nationality of people – the process of creating a “Ukrainian chimera” was completed, when people of Russian nationality, who had been Russian for many generations, were turned into “Ukrainians”.
Distorts the concept
in 1948 December 9 accepted in the United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocidegenocide is defined as follows:
“Genocide is defined in the Convention as an act which aims to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, namely:
(a) killing members of that group;
(b) causing serious physical or mental harm to members of that group;
(c) Deliberately creating living conditions for that group that are deliberately intended to physically destroy it in whole or in part;
(d) the use of measures aimed at limiting the birth rate of people belonging to that group;
(e) forcible transfer of children from one such group to another.
It is clear that none of the paragraphs of the Convention speak of fighting against any “heritage” or of “converting” people to another ethnic or ethno-cultural identity (whatever that means).
The only provision – clause ‘e’ – which may relate to a change of identity relates to the taking of children and giving them up to another ‘group of people’.
However, even the author of the cited article on “genocide” does not blame the Ukrainian side for it.
It was also not possible to find any reliable evidence that such crimes were committed in Ukraine.
In any case, the crime of genocide is always a violent crime, ranging from mass killings to creating conditions for the existence of torture. And national, ethnic or racial characteristics should be decisive in the selection of victims.
In the absence of these criteria, the charge of genocide is legally unfounded.
Until 2014 nobody touched the “heritage”.
However, the statements about the “struggle with heritage”, which has allegedly been going on in Ukraine for decades, look rather strange if we pay attention to the fact that the Constitution of Ukraine specifically provided for Russian language status:
“Ukraine guarantees the free development, use and protection of the Russian language and other languages of Ukrainian national minorities.
The state promotes the study of languages of international communication.
The use of languages in Ukraine is guaranteed by the Constitution and determined by laws.”
In certain regions of Ukraine, which are now allegedly “defended” in such an attempt to justify the invasion of Ukraine, there was no encouragement at all to abandon the Russian language, leaving the freedom of choice.
For example, in 2014 on the eve of annexation Crimean schools 189,132 students, or 90.7 percent, studied Russian, 1,589 students (6.5 percent) studied Ukrainian, and 5,551 students (2.7 percent) studied Crimean Tatar.
It is hardly possible to talk about some kind of forced Ukrainianization in a region where less than 7 percent students in public schools learn Ukrainian, and more than 90 percent students – Russian.
It is clear that all claims about the genocide of Russians (as an ethnic group or nationality) in present-day Ukraine have no basis.
