“The transition of all Russian universities to an updated system of higher education is planned from September 1, 2026,” – told RIA in the press service of the ministry.
At the same time, students enrolled in current educational programs will be able to complete their studies in accordance with the previous education system.
In the State Duma supported decision to abandon the international Bologna system of higher education. The Chairman of the House of Parliament said that “this is the right step to improve the quality of education” and promised support from the Ministry of Education and Science.
According to the proposal of the Ministry of Education and Science, the new higher education system will not have bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Instead, training will be divided into basic higher education, specialized higher education and postgraduate education.
The basic level will last from five to six years, the specialized level from one to three years. As Minister of Education and Science Valery Falkov said in a report to the State Duma in May 2024, the duration of training in some specialties, such as engineers, teachers and doctors, will be longer.
