Russia is reducing the number of diplomatic representatives in Norway. In the statement made by the Russian Embassy in Oslo, it was stated that, upon the request of the Norwegian authorities, the number of consular personnel in the country will be reduced to 2 by October 17.
In the statement of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the issue, it was stated that this decision was not related to the expulsion of diplomats and that a dialogue was established with Russia to ensure a diplomatic presence in both countries.
In April 2023, the Norwegian administration declared 15 personnel at the Russian Embassy in Oslo as persona non grata due to the increasing intelligence threat.
Russia, on the other hand, described Norway’s decision as “an extremely hostile step”.
