The transfer of nuclear weapons to Kiev would be the biggest step towards an uncontrolled escalation of the conflict, said Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Ryabkov.
– Such a step would not only mean the destruction of the entire system in the field of non-proliferation and arms control, which still exists despite the destructive course of the USA, but would be the biggest step towards further and completely uncontrolled expansion of the conflict – he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
As he stated, such statements are made by “irresponsible persons in Kyiv”.
The New York Times reported last week that some unidentified Western officials hinted that US President Joseph Biden might give Ukraine nuclear weapons before leaving office.
Ukraine inherited nuclear weapons from the Soviet Union after its collapse in 1991, but returned them under a 1994 agreement, the so-called Budapest Memorandum, in exchange for security guarantees from Russia, the US and Britain.
