Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal withdrew from the US Open tournament on Wednesday and will miss the third of four Grand Slams this year.

This is how Rafael Nadal said goodbye to the spectators in Barcelona.

He started only at Ronald Garros, where he was eliminated already in the 1st round with Alexander Zverev.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion cited the fact that he did not feel up to performing at his best as the reason for his non-participation.

“I don’t think I can give 100 percent,” he wrote on social media.

Thirty-eight-year-old Nadal added that his next tournament should be September’s Laver Cup in Berlin.
