Samsung Bioepis is replacing its leader for the first time in 13 years.
Samsung Bioepis announced on the 27th that Kim Kyung-ah, Vice President and Head of Development Division, has been promoted to CEO.
The new CEO, Kyung-ah Kim, is a biosimilar development expert who completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in pharmacy at Seoul National University and earned a doctorate in toxicology from Johns Hopkins University in the United States. In 2010, he joined Samsung Electronics Advanced Institute of Technology as a senior researcher for bio new drug development, and joined Samsung Bioepis in 2015. It has played a key role throughout the business, including similar development, process, quality, and licensing.
With this promotion, new CEO Kim became the first female professional CEO of Samsung Group. The company explains that through this, it is expected to not only present a vision for growth to female talents and provide an opportunity to take on bold challenges, but also become a role model for women at Samsung Bioepis and inject new vitality into the organization. More than half of the company’s workforce is comprised of women.
Samsung Bioepis said, “CEO Kim Kyung-ah will continue to lead the innovation and growth of Samsung Bioepis based on her accumulated expertise and consilient leadership in the biopharmaceutical field.”
CEO Ko Han-seung, who has led the company since its founding in 2012, has moved to the position of president and head of Samsung Electronics’ future business planning division.
