Samsung: A new battery with 1,000 km of autonomy

Samsung is currently preparing a battery that offers a range of up to 1,000 kilometers on a single charge.

Electric cars are enjoying growing success and are offering increasingly larger batteries.

A revolutionary battery

These are in fact constantly improving in order to offer higher and higher prices, which also has the effect of reassuring worried motorists. Indeed, the latter are still held back because they fear not being able to drive long enough, especially on long journeys. But this fear is less and less justified. Especially since equipment manufacturers are working on even more advanced solutions. And in fact, a promising advance comes from Samsung, which recently unveiled a new solid-state battery. With an energy density almost twice that of current batteries, this new battery offers 500 Wh per kilogram. More concretely, this means that vehicles equipped with this battery could achieve an impressive range of 900 to 1,000 kilometers on a single charge. Suffice to say that this represents a real leap forward compared to what is currently offered.

More security

But that’s not all. In fact, another aspect must also be taken into account: security. And precisely, you should know that the solid state batteries are inherently safer, reducing the risk of fire and explosion. In addition, this new technology reduces the overall weight of the battery, which improves the vehicle’s energy efficiency by reducing consumption, among other things. Koh Joo-young, a Samsung representative quoted by The Elec, said that this battery could also reduce the overall manufacturing costs of electric vehicles. In addition to improving range and safety, this battery promises ultra-fast charging in just nine minutes. In addition, the battery’s lifespan is estimated at 20 years, which is far beyond the current average. This should reassure motorists who fear having to replace their accumulator and therefore having to pay very high sums.

It remains to be seen when this technology will arrive on production cars.
