Samsung brings a welcome improvement to One UI 7. HDR will no longer burn your eyes

  • Thanks to HDR, it is possible to see more details in the shadows
  • Proper viewing often requires increasing the brightness of the entire screen
  • One UI 7 will allow HDR to be turned off globally to avoid annoying brightness jumps at night

Viewing HDR content requires display support. When presenting HDR content, there is often a sudden increase in the brightness of the entire screenwhich can be uncomfortable for users, especially in the evening. Samsung in One UI 6.x allows you to turn off HDR in the Gallery, but not system-wide. That will change with One UI 7.

Now the switch is named Super HDR hidden in settings Galerie. Newly moving to system level settings. Experts from Android Authority ho found v SettingsAdvanced function. The difference is that in One UI 7, changing settings affects the entire system, so it will also affect apps like Instagram etc.

The reason why turning off Super HDR affects apps like Instagram and Threads is because Samsung’s Super HDR feature uses Google’s Ultra HDR image format internally. Ultra HDR is Google’s effort to create a universally supported HDR image format.

Android Authority also made a short video demonstrating the effect of the switch in One UI 7. If you’re browsing Instagram or Threads at night and the sudden brightness changes bother you, we recommend turning off Super HDR after updating to One UI 7.

Do you use HDR?
