The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE it’s finally official, and it comes with a larger 6.7-inch screen, a larger battery, and a focus on improved performance, while bringing the ProVisual Engine to the FE series.
This year, there won’t be two versions when it comes to chipsets. The S24 FE is powered by the Exynos 2400e. While Samsung didn’t specify the details, the basic Cortex-X4 core should run at a lower clock speed.
This may affect maximum performance, but consistent performance is expected to be enhanced with a new vapor chamber that is 1.1x larger from the previous one. As last year’s S23 FE had to use a combination of Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (both chips from 2022), the performance upgrade from S23 FE to S24 FE should be huge.
Samsung equipped the phone with just 8GB of RAM, which is the same as the Galaxy S24. There will be versions with 128GB, 256GB and 512GB storage.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE has a 6.7” screen, 0.3” larger than its predecessor. This puts it on the same diagonal as the S24+, however, this is an OLED FHD+ panel instead of a QHD+ LTPO. The screen can run at 120Hz or 60Hz and has Vision Booster for bright, sunny days.
Samsung has brought the ProVisual Engine from its flagship series to the FE series. This combines Nightography (AI ISP that improves low-light shots) with a system that optimizes colors in Super HDR. In addition, it provides optical quality 2x zoom.
This comes from the 50MP (f/1.8) primary camera. An extra zoom step is available with the 3x 8MP (f/2.4) telephoto lens unit, while there’s also a 12MP 123° (f/2.2) ultrawide lens. The selfie camera has a 10MP sensor.
The battery now has a capacity of 4,700 mAh (+200 mAh compared to the S23 FE), however, the charging rates remain the same, i.e. 25W wired (0-50% in 30 minutes) and 15W wireless.
The S24 FE measures 162.0 x 77.3 x 8.0mm and weighs 213g. This is 4mm. taller, less than a millimeter wider and slightly thinner than the S23 FE.
Connectivity includes 5G, Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.3. As before, the body is IP68 certified for dust and water resistance (1.5 meters under water for 30 minutes).
The Galaxy S24 FE runs Android 14 and OneUI 6.1, but will be updated through 7 generations of the OS and receive security patches for 7 years.
AI features include the usual Galaxy AI options. Circle to Search is a handy way to search for things on Google by long-pressing the home button and circling the item you’re interested in. Live Translate is a voice translation for calls and is now supported in select third-party apps. The Interpreter is used when you need a translation in person. Composer is a Samsung keyboard feature that can write emails and social media posts for you based on a few keywords. Note Assist automates note formatting, transcribing and summarizing voice recordings and can translate PDF files.
Samsung Galaxy S24 FE pre-orders have started and will be available from October 3rd. The base model is priced at $650, and the 512GB storage option is not available in some regions.
