Android enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the Samsung Galaxy S25, but the expected flagship seems to disappoint again in one area.
‘Samsung Galaxy S25 charging speed is disappointing’
We probably won’t have to wait much longer for the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S25. The new top device will probably be announced in January, just like its predecessor – the Galaxy S24. Samsung makes all kinds of improvements to its top devices every year, but the company is hopelessly behind in one area: charging speed.
Unfortunately, this does not seem to be changing with the Galaxy S25. The smartphone has turned up at the FCC testing agency and it shows that it can charge with 25 watts. Samsung has been opting for this speed for years, while phones from other brands can now charge much faster. Consider, for example, the Edge 50 Ultra from Motorola, which reaches a speed of 125 watts. This allows the phone to go from 0 to 100 percent in just twenty minutes.
It is also striking that the Galaxy S25 would actually charge wirelessly slower than its predecessor. According to the information from the FCC registration, the S25 supports wireless charging at 9 watts. For comparison: the Galaxy S24 from the beginning of this year does this with a maximum of 15 watts. It is unclear why Samsung opted for this downgrade chooses.
The good news is that the Galaxy S25 Plus and Galaxy S25 Ultra take less time to fill the battery. These devices support – just like the S24 Plus and S24 Ultra – fast charging with a maximum of 45 watts. However, we would like to see the regular S25 also make the step to 45 watts, especially since the cheaper Galaxy A56 will probably get this upgrade.
What else we know about the S25
The Galaxy S25 series again consists of three smartphones. The regular S25 with a 6.2-inch screen, the S25 Plus with a 6.7-inch display and the top model: the Galaxy S25 Ultra. It will have a 6.8-inch screen and a new design, making it look more like its cheaper brothers.
There is still uncertainty about the hardware. The S25 Ultra probably runs on a super-fast Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. It also gets a new 50 megapixel wide-angle lens. The normal S25 and S25 Plus may run on an Exynos chip or processor from MediaTek.
