Samsung’s new top devices support magnetic wireless charging, but you probably need a special case for that. Unfortunately, you cannot charge the Samsung Galaxy S25 with this ‘MagSafe’-like method as standard.
‘Need a case for MagSafe on Samsung Galaxy S25’
The Qi2 standard has been in existence since 2023, which allows you to charge Android smartphones magnetically wirelessly. That idea is not new: it is a variant of MagSafe, which Apple has had since the iPhone 12 offers. Recent iPhones have built-in magnets, so the charger always ends up in the right place.
We previously read that the Samsung Galaxy S25 smartphones would also have ‘MagSafe’ on board. That seems only partly true. According to GizmoChina you need a special case that contains the magnets. Below you can see what they look like on the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Ultra.
That would mean bad news for those who like to use their smartphone without a case or are not charmed by such a large round circle on the back.
It is unclear why Samsung does not opt for built-in MagSafe magnets on the Galaxy S25. These may prevent the use of the S Pen on the Ultra variant. It would of course be strange if the normal S25 had magnets and the S25 Ultra did not.
Release Galaxy S25 is getting closer
We don’t have official confirmation yet, but Samsung will probably present the Galaxy S25 series on January 22. The smartphones would be available in stores from February 7.
Three models will appear again: the Galaxy S25, the Galaxy S25 Plus and the Galaxy S25 Ultra. They all run on a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, the fastest processor at the moment. The devices look quite similar to their predecessors, although the Ultra has a more playful design with rounded corners. Furthermore, the screen edges become a lot thinner.
Furthermore, for the first time, the normal Galaxy S25 would have 12GB of RAM to properly run all Galaxy AI functions. Nothing changes about the cameras: you get a 50 megapixel main camera again, a 12 megapixel wide-angle lens and a 10 megapixel telephoto lens with which you can zoom in 3x.
