Samsung Galaxy S25: This Could Be the Release Date – Unpacked S25 Slim Revealed?

OR Samsung may be gearing up to launch early Galaxy S25 series pre-orders on January 5, but the Unpacked announcement event could take place in the January 22-23 timeframe.

Local Korean media reports a tip from anonymous sources that the Galaxy S25 Unpacked event date is set for the second fortnight of January and San Francisco is the prime candidate for the big reveal.

Earlier in the year, Samsung moved its S24 line Unpacked event from February to January for the first time, and it looks set to establish a tradition with the 2025 Unpacked event where the Galaxy S25 Ultra with more rounded corners, the S25+ and the smaller S25.

The report claims that the Galaxy S25 Unpacked event is supposed to take place on January 23, but the sources could well mean Korean local time, as the 23rd is a Thursday, while Samsung usually holds its unveilings on Wednesdays with a release on the second Friday since then.

This year, Samsung announced the S24 on Wednesday, January 17th, but released it almost two weeks later, on January 31st. By the same token, the Galaxy S25 release date will fall on February 7th, which is a long time since pre-orders started on January 5th, so we’ll bet on guessing that the S25 release date will also be on Friday, January 31, 2025.

Apart from the reveal that the Unpacked event will take place in January, the most impressive revelation is that, in addition to the S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra, Samsung will also introduce the fourth member of the family. The so-called Galaxy S25 Slim is also said to be present at the event, although Samsung may launch it later, sometime in the second quarter.

This smartphone is said to have the thinnest body on a Galaxy phone, although 6mm thickness is reportedly proving impossible for both Samsung and Apple, and it is said to feature an “Ultra” camera. It remains to be seen if this will be the main 200MP sensor that Samsung currently uses in the S24 Ultra and Z Fold Special Edition and then the S25 Ultra.

While the exact naming scheme for Samsung’s slimmest handset for 2025 is still open, it carries the model number SM-S937U, or that of a fourth member added to the Galaxy S25 trio, spotted in a regulatory database. This gives some food for thought about the ultimate purpose of another phone in the series that isn’t the Galaxy S25, S25+ or S25 Ultra.

The “U” at the end also indicates that this phone will be making its way stateside, so it’s not some obscure regional model made for local carriers, but actually a full member of the S25 family.

The launch of the S25 Slim is also set for the second quarter of 2025, or a full quarter before the iPhone 17 Air, so that Samsung can gauge its reception. It could, however, be powered by Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8 Elite (Gen 4) chipset and reportedly have a better camera than the iPhone Air, so market acceptance of Samsung’s elegance in 2025 may just depend on the initial his honor.

Since the Galaxy S24 FE has just been released, it’s logical to assume that the fourth smartphone in the S25 series would be Samsung’s rumored answer to the Apple iPhone 17 Air. So we can expect a slimmer and sleeker build but relatively weaker specs than the rest of the lineup.
