The main attraction of the new tablet from Samsung is the brilliant Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with the support of the S Pen electronic pen, which is included in the package, as well as the implementation of Galaxy AI. The attribute 5G means the possibility of connection via a mobile data network.
The body of the tablet is made of durable aluminum. The IP68 resistance certificate for both the tablet and the pen in practice means that you can use the tablet in the field or on vacation and it doesn’t get in the way if you are surprised by the rain or if the tablet or pen falls into water. On the back, there is a practical oblong magnetic surface with a plastic surface for holding the S Pen stylus, through which the stylus is also charged wirelessly. The pen has a bevel in the attachment point, so the attachment is precise and reliable. The S Pen also supports so-called air gestures above the display without touching it with the stylus tip.
The 12.4″ display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and displays 100% of the DCI-P3 color space, so the tablet is aimed not only at consumers, but also at multimedia content creators, i.e. for editing photos, videos and, of course, for designers and graphic artists.The 16:10 aspect ratio allows you to display more content when used in landscape, and when used in portrait, this format is ideal for viewing documents.HDR10+ technology optimizes the display of photos and videos scene by scene, dynamically adjusting brightness and color rendering. so watching movies from streaming services is a real experience.The refresh rate varies automatically between 60 and 120 Hz.The maximum brightness is 650 nits.
The large display with a resolution of 1752 × 2800 pixels provides disproportionately more space than a smartphone display with a similar resolution. The trick is in the so-called scale. If the texts were displayed on a 6-inch smartphone display to make full use of the resolution, they would be very small and difficult to read, while on a 12.4-inch tablet they would be comfortably readable. Application developers take this into account and dynamically adapt the displayed content not only to the resolution, but also to the screen size. The Multi Window function allows you to display up to three applications at once in neatly arranged windows, while the display in each window will be similar to how the application would appear on a smartphone. In Pop-Up View mode, applications are displayed as floating windows, under which you can still see the standard desktop. The display has a very good anti-reflective layer. The fingerprint sensor is at the right edge in the middle of the height. The sensor works very well regardless of whether you use the tablet in landscape or portrait mode.
The heart of the tablet is the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ chipset. It has 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage space. The processor and graphics have sufficient performance even for demanding games. Benchmark tests showed that the computing power is 18% higher than last year’s model. Graphics performance is 28% higher and NPU performance is 14% higher. An improved evaporator chamber is used to cool the chipset.
Sound is also a crucial part of the multimedia experience. The tablet has a sound system with four built-in speakers, which ensures high-quality stereophonic reproduction in both positions – in landscape and portrait. In the landscape position, the sound is noticeably more spatial thanks to the wider stereo base. Dolby Atmos support is a matter of course. I recommend trying the preconfigured sound profiles, especially the gaming profile.
Despite the fact that the primary purpose of the cameras in tablets is documentary shots, or photographing documents, both cameras, the main one with a slightly wide-angle lens and the ultra-wide-angle one, provide above-average quality shots for this category even in more difficult lighting conditions. You will appreciate the excellent cameras especially during video calls. You can record or stream video in UHD 4K resolution (3840 × 2160) @ 30fps.
After adding a keyboard, you get a full-fledged work tool. Most of the time, I tested the Galaxy Tab S10 in a set with the original external keyboard, which, however, must be purchased separately. The included S-Pen represents a big added value. It communicates with the tablet via bluetooth and after being magnetically attached to the back of the tablet, it also charges wirelessly. Despite decades of keyboards and touchscreen devices, many still find handwriting the most intuitive way to take notes, let alone draw.
The battery with a capacity of 10,090 mAh can last one day of intensive work. Of course, it mainly depends on what applications you run and how you set the display brightness. You can charge the tablet with an input of up to 45 W, but in accordance with the current trend, the charger is not included.
Like all new products, the Tab S10 has Galaxy AI artificial intelligence implemented. Be sure to try the Circle to Search function to search for information about the circled part of the image, Notes Assist to reformulate and format notes, or Browser Assist to summarize web pages. Chat Assist can help you communicate, but don’t overdo it, text suggestions are sometimes a bit impersonal. Not only younger users will appreciate the Sketch to Image function, which will transform your “artificial” sketch into a nice drawing or painting. AI also improves the intelligibility of dialogues when playing videos. On the external keyboard, to the right of the right Alt key, you will find a key with well-known stars – the Galaxy AI logo. Most of the AI functions that are implemented on servers in the cloud also work in Slovak. We will have to wait some time for the localization of functions such as translation of the call, chat, interpreter or transcription of the call into text into Slovak. These functions are performed in real-time directly on the device, so the AI model for the respective product must be optimized to fit in the device’s memory.
