Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 in the durability test. How this new clam fared was a surprise

  • The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is the latest flip phone from Samsung
  • Compared to its predecessor, it boasts several innovations
  • One of them is, for example, higher resistance

The Flip 6 took a beating in Zack Nelson’s test

And it was here, but not only here, that well-known YouTuber Zack Nelson, aka JerryRigEverything, tried in his last test. He tests the phones really hard and focuses on their construction, which he subjects to really torturous tricks, the result of which is often the complete destruction of the phone. How did the newest clamshell from Samsung’s workshops fare in this test?

Galaxy Z Flip 6 in the durability test

Although the new Flip 6 is in many ways the same as its predecessor Flip 5several elements se Samsung managed to improve significantly. One of them is the divide between the upper and lower parts of the flexible display, which is really minimal and the shift in this direction is clearly visible. Yes, the divide is still there, but it’s only really noticeable when looking at a certain angle.

The internal display is not protected by glass, but has a flexible, plastic protection, which is necessary because the display is flexible. As expected, this layer scratches much more easily than glass, and the first scratches started to appear as early as level two on the Mohs hardness scale. The external display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and you can tell, scratches appear from level seven.

Worse protection of the internal display does not matter

All clamshells have plastic protection for the internal display, which is more prone to scratches, but this is not a major problem. The phone is closed in the pocket, so the internal display is naturally protected from scratches (unless you close some coarse dirt in it). The plastic protection of the glass is not even resistant to fire, which melted it after 14 seconds, but this did not affect the functionality of the display.

Another innovation compared to the previous generation is better protection against dust expressed by IP48 protection. Therefore, Zack literally covered the Flip 6 with a pile of sand that would normally get everywhere, and even though the hinge started making creaking noises after doing this, everything continued to function without issue, and it certainly didn’t seem like this test had any effect on long-term functionality construction.

There is no danger of destroying the structure

Folding phones may seem fragile at first glance, but the opposite is true and Flip 6 is a successful proof of that. Bending the hinge against the direction of movement did not cause any damage to the structure, and although the entire phone bent significantly, the structure then returned to its original state and functionality was problem-free. The Flip 6 therefore passed this demanding test with flying colors and showed that it can boast of a really high-quality and durable construction.
