Foldable smartphones are more fragile than regular ones. That’s why a famous YouTuber subjected the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 to his infamous torture test. Curious about the results? Then check out the footage!
Torture test fails to break Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6
If JerryRigEverything a new video published on YouTube has smartphone manufacturers trembling with fear. Zack Nelson, as he is really called, attacks new phones with tools, sand, fire and his bare hands. In this way he shows whether they can withstand heavy daily use.
The latest smartphone to undergo this torture test is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6. This folding phone has a plastic top layer on the inner screen, so you can fold the device closed. As a result, the display is quite soft. You can easily scratch it with your fingernail. So that is certainly something to take into account. The smaller screen on the outside appears to be a lot more resistant to damage.
Nelson then pours a generous amount of sand into the device. The Flip 6 has an IP48 rating, meaning it’s waterproof but less fond of dust. Still, the phone keeps working. The flame from Nelson’s lighter does more damage. After about 14 seconds, the plastic starts to melt.
The most important part of the torture is the bend test. It’s quite a challenge for a flip phone, but the Flip 6 doesn’t flinch. It bends, but it doesn’t break. And it still functions perfectly afterward.
Later in the video, the YouTuber peels off the different layers of the screen. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is less happy about that, because it stops working quite quickly. However, that is something you will never do in everyday life.
More about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is a modest upgrade over the Flip 5. The smartphone runs on a faster Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, has a new 50 megapixel main camera and a slightly larger battery. Furthermore, there is again a lot of emphasis on AI. We have written an extensive review about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, in which you can read our opinion about the device. Below is the conclusion.
The Flip 6 has some nice upgrades over its predecessor. The processor is faster, the screen brighter and the hinge stronger. With its 50 megapixel camera you can shoot slightly nicer photos and zoom in a bit digitally without much loss of quality. And although many AI functions are not available in the Netherlands, the update policy is excellent.
Still, you have to swallow quite a few compromises for the privilege of being able to fold the Flip 6. The still visible crease in the screen, the mediocre second display, the at most reasonable battery life and of course the high price. Are you willing to pay that? Then this Samsung is a reasonable choice, although we would certainly also look at the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra.
