Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition official: thinner design, improved cameras

Expectations have come true and Samsung has launched a special edition of the Galaxy Z Fold folding smartphone on the domestic Korean market, which is thinner than the classic “six” and offers improved cameras.

The thinnest Galaxy Fold in history

Novelty Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition it comes in at 10.6mm thick and weighs 236g, making it 1.5mm thinner and 3g lighter than its older sibling. For the first time, a camera with a 200 MP sensor is used in a smartphone with a flexible display. It is equipped with 16 GB of operating memory, so you don’t have to worry about its lack when multitasking with demanding applications.

The internal display received an 8-inch diagonal (vs. 7.6″ Fold6) with an aspect ratio of 20:18, making it the widest screen in the Fold series. The external 6.5-inch display received a 21:9 aspect ratio, so it is larger and slightly wider than the Fold6. Using it in the closed state will be more comfortable. Once again, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 tuned specifically for Galaxy devices will take care of the performance. The battery has a capacity of 4,400 mAh.

Availability and price

Sales of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition start in the Korean market 25 October 2024the price is set at 2,789,600 KRW, which is converted about 1,875 euros. But add VAT, customs, import and other fees to the European price. However, the question of global availability remains unanswered.

The new, thinner Galaxy Z Fold in the special edition is thus closer in thickness to the competing Honor Magic V3, which boasts the slimmest body in the world when closed with a thickness of only 9.2 mm. That is still 1.4 mm less than the new foldable Samsung offers.

But this is certainly good news for fans of the brand. Even if the new and thinner Z Fold doesn’t make it to Europe, there is hope that the next generation of folding smartphones of the Fold series will already be thinner than the current version.
