A new Samsung patent reveals plans for a tablet with a rollable display. We don’t know many details yet, nor when he should be introduced.
Samsung continues its projects of new devices. After recent patents for tri-fold devices, foldable gaming phones and smartphones with a rollable display, comes another interesting concept, the rollable screen tablet. The patent, registered on November 26, includes sketches and descriptions of technology that could revolutionize tablets.
The sketches show that the device is likely to be thicker than current tablets. This is understandable, as the mechanism for scrolling the display and other components require more space. However, the patent does not specify the dimensions. So it is not clear whether it will be a compact tablet or rather a larger device in the style of the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra. The extension of the display should be provided by a mechanism with a motor that could be activated automatically using sensors or a button on the side of the device.
The patent further suggests the presence of a USB-C port and possible connectors for connecting a keyboard. In addition, the absence of a hinge could solve some of the problems of foldable devices, while still offering users a large screen in a portable size. As is often the case with patents, their creation does not necessarily mean that the device will reach the market. However, with this move, Samsung confirms that it is looking for new ways to bring something new to the market.
