Samsung introduced a smart ring for monitoring bodily functions – Communication – Science and technology

The Galaxy Ring replaces a watch when monitoring bodily functions. However, it doesn’t have a display and can’t even alert you to notifications. Samsung will sell it for 449 euros.

It’s called the Galaxy Ring, and with its monitoring capabilities, it can replace smart watches and fitness bracelets. At the Galaxy Unpacked conference, Samsung introduced a ring for monitoring body functions, with which it will compete with the Oura Ring device. The ring does not have a display, but it uses artificial intelligence, which is said to be able to calibrate input data more accurately. With it, the company wants to appeal especially to customers who, for various reasons, do not want or cannot wear sports watches on their wrists.

The waterproof Galaxy Ring is made of titanium alloy, and has the width and thickness of the larger ring – 7 and 2.6 millimeters. Its functioning is no different from other devices that record bodily functions. Using sensors, it monitors pulse, temperature and blood oxygenation, and then uses the data to analyze sleep, movement and, in women, the menstrual cycle. Unlike watches, which need to be charged at best once every two or three days, the ring should last six or seven days of normal use.

Similar to the Oura Ring, interested parties must first measure their finger and then order a ring size corresponding to its thickness. Samsung will sell the Galaxy Ring in nine sizes to suit customers with both thinner and thicker fingers. It will be available in black, silver and gold for a price of 449 euros. Unlike Oura Ring, it will be possible to fully use it through the Samsung Health application even without a monthly subscription. It will not yet be available in Slovakia at the time of sales launch.
