Samsung is reportedly working on a gaming OLED monitor with a 27-inch QD-OLED panel, 1440p resolution and 500Hz refresh rate.
Samsung is preparing a gaming monitor with a 27-inch OLED panel, a resolution of 1440p and a refresh rate of 500 Hz. If confirmed, it will be the fastest monitor of its kind in the world, surpassing the previous maximum of 480 Hz in models from LG and Asus.
The key to this performance is supposed to be QD-OLED technology, which combines the advantages of Quantum Dot and OLED displays. These panels offer better color accuracy, contrast and fast response, making them an ideal choice for gamers. It is not yet clear when the monitor will be introduced, but it is speculated to be in the first half of next year.
Samsung isn’t the only one working on new monitors. Chinese brand Light Soul plans to launch a 27-inch QD-OLED monitor with 4K resolution, 240Hz refresh rate and up to 1000 nits of brightness. Meanwhile, LG is planning a 45-inch WOLED panel with a higher resolution than the current 3440×1440 pixels, which may be ideal for gamers looking for bigger screens.
While 500Hz sounds impressive, the question is whether casual gamers will use this speed. For e-athletes, where every millisecond counts, this can be an advantage, but what good is it for the average gamer?
