Samsung is working with Google on smart glasses: we now know this

Samsung is working with Google on smart glasses that will resemble the glasses from Ray-Ban and Meta. This is what we already know about it.

The new XR glasses from Samsung and Google will only be released on the market in the second half of next year, reports say 9to5Google. The site listed what it already knows about the new glasses. Chinese sources report that 500,000 glasses will be made during an initial production process, which will be available for sale from the third quarter of 2025.

The glasses are said to be powered by Qualcomm’s AR1 chipset. That is the same chip as the one in Ray-Ban and Meta glasses. The camera (12 megapixel) and the battery (155 mAh) are also virtually comparable.

No screen

According to 9to5Google, the question so far was mainly whether the glasses would have an extra display. That is not the case, it seems. It is not mentioned in the rumors it listed.

We know somewhat what the glasses should be able to do. For example, Google’s AI model Gemini could perform various AI tasks and also scan QR codes. The AI model could also recognize gestures and the glasses would support making payments. It is not known exactly what that entails. But according to 9to5Google it is clear that the glasses can probably do more than the glasses from Meta and Ray-Ban.

Glasses from Ray-Ban and Meta are a success

Furthermore, there is still a lot we don’t know about the glasses. For example, nothing is known about the price yet and it is also not clear whether the glasses will be available in our country. For example, the XR glasses from Ray-Ban and Meta are not.

When Google launched Google Glass in 2013, the world was not quite ready for it. Ray-Ban and Meta glasses are popular. We previously wrote this piece about it.
