Samsung may launch first high-end Chromebook next week

ASUS, Acer and Lenovo have already released them: Chromebooks with the word Plus in the product name. Google allows companies to do this when the Chrome laptops have relatively good specifications, something that is not always the case with normal Chromebooks. According to rumors, Samsung will soon come with a Chromebook Plus for the first time.

Samsung has made several Chromebooks before. The company’s last premium Chromebook, the Galaxy Chromebook 2, was released in 2021. Chrome Unboxed now writes that the codename of a possible new Chromebook from Samsung has surfaced in a database. Rumors about the new device, codenamed Xol, have been circulating for some time.

Android Authority expect the new laptop to have high-end specifications and probably a button to call Gemini, Google’s AI chatbot. Further details are still lacking. Google is holding an event in New York on September 24 that focuses on Chromebooks. The new Samsung device may be unveiled there. It is not clear whether and when we will then be able to buy the laptop in the Netherlands.

The Chromebook Plus brand is used for Chromebooks with higher specifications than usual. Most Chromebooks have simple specifications, making them very affordable. The laptops, which run on Google’s ChromeOS, are widely used in education.

To be eligible for the Plus label, a Chromebook must have at least 8 GB of RAM. In addition, at least 128 GB of storage must be available and the laptop must have at least an Intel i3 processor of the twelfth generation or newer, or an AMD Ryzen 3 processor of the 7000 series. The display must have at least IPS technology and a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels.
