Samsung appears to be taking a fair amount of inspiration from Apple’s iOS 18 for its next major One UI update, according to leaked images of some of the changes coming to One UI 7, which is coming to Samsung phones this fall.
One UI is Samsung’s user interface that runs on top of Android. It is designed to provide a more streamlined experience on the South Korean company’s smartphones and tablets.
Samsung will soon release One UI 7, the latest version of the interface. It will be released after Android 15. Not much was known about it, until the well-known leaker Chun Bhai on X shared quite a bit of information about.
Icons resemble those of iOS 18
According to the leaker, One UI 7 seems to be “heavily inspired by iOS 18”. Many icons will get more rounded corners, just like Apple’s, and will look almost 3D. The Gallery app will get a rainbow color instead of the current red color, which is also reminiscent of the icon on iOS.
Another screenshot from Chun Bhai shows a feature that lets users switch between a “classic” and “bold” layout. The latter sees icons get bigger while app names disappear. This is another feature Apple added in iOS 18 with “small” and “large” icon styles. Users on X are calling Samsung’s feature “literally an iOS 18 feature.”
Still waiting for the first beta
It is not yet certain whether the final version will look like this. The first beta of One UI 7 will probably be released in August or September. The final version will follow a few months later.
