Samsung released its new wearable smart devices – including the expected Galaxy Ring smart ring

At Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event, the new Galaxy Watch smartwatches and Galaxy Buds earphones, as well as the manufacturer’s first smart ring Galaxy Ring, were presented.

The Galaxy Unpacked event organized by Samsung in Paris officially revealed, in addition to the flagship smartphones with foldable screens, new wearable smart devices, which are the Galaxy Watch7 and Watch Ultra smartwatches, the Galaxy Buds3 and Buds3 Pro earbuds, and Samsung’s first smart ring aimed at health monitoring, the Galaxy Ring, which had been rumored for a long time the current year.

The Galaxy Watch7 is the successor to last year’s Watch6 and comes in both 40 and 44 mm sizes in green and cream (40 mm) and green and silver (44 mm). The appearance is also familiar from last year, but Galaxy AI artificial intelligence has naturally been harnessed to the new watch. For example, the Quick replies to messages sent by the watch are now modified to suit the user’s style based on previous conversations, instead of only ready-made formal replies.

As usual, versatile health monitoring enables, for example, sleep monitoring – which has been improved with Galaxy AI –, heart rate and rhythm monitoring, blood pressure measurement and body composition measurement. As a new feature, Samsung highlights the so-called the measurement of glycotoxins, which tell about the body’s biological aging and general metabolic well-being and are largely determined by diet and lifestyle. Sleep apnea monitoring is also expected as a later update.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra is the bigger brother of the Watch7, which represents a new kind of design and engineering and utilizes titanium in its structure. In terms of appearance, the Watch Ultra is squarer and thicker, and a new function key has been added to it, to which you can assign the functions you want, such as starting your favorite workout. The screen’s circular bezel cannot be mechanically rotated to navigate the user interface, unlike previous Classic models. The diameter is 47 mm, which is a degree larger than Watch7, and the color options in Watch Ultra are gray, white and silver with a hint of titanium.

The flagship watch has the same health monitoring and artificial intelligence features as the Watch7, but is also marketed as suitable for extreme conditions and sports. For example, the altitude range that the watch can withstand is from 500 meters below sea level to up to 9000 m. The Watch Ultra is promised to withstand underwater pressure of 10 atmospheres (10 atm). The watch also has a “siren function” for emergency situations. Battery life is promised up to 100 hours in power saving mode and 48 hours in active use.

Both Galaxy Watch innovations have an IP68 protection rating, a sapphire crystal Super AMOLED screen, an Exynos W1000 system chip made with a three-nanometer process, two gigabytes of RAM and 32 GB of storage space, and the operating system is Google’s WearOS 5, which runs Samsung’s OneUI 6 Watch user interface.

Galaxy Ring is Samsung’s first smart ring, which is naturally designed to be compatible with the Galaxy ecosystem. The ring, aimed at continuous health monitoring, weighs 2.3–3 grams, depending on the size. There are a total of nine size options and the colors are titanium-like black, silver and gold. Like the Galaxy Watch Ultra, the ring is promised 10 atm pressure resistance under water.

Special attention has been paid to sleep monitoring in the Galaxy Ring, as it monitors, with the help of artificial intelligence, for example, the user’s movement and snoring during sleep, as well as heart rate and breathing rate. Monitoring of the menstrual cycle is also possible with the help of nighttime skin temperature monitoring. In addition, there are alarms familiar from Galaxy Watches when the heart rate or rhythm changes suddenly, as well as inactivity reminders and recognition of the start of a workout. When connected to Galaxy phones, the ring can also be used with touch functions to, for example, take a photo or turn off the alarm clock.

The Galaxy Ring also has an IP68 protection rating and is promised up to a week of continuous battery life. It also comes with a 62g wireless charging case.

Among the Galaxy Buds wireless earphones, Samsung introduced the new Buds3 and Buds3 Pro models, whose design is completely different from the manufacturer’s previous models and more closely resembles the style of other manufacturers. As a noteworthy point, the Buds3 are open models with 11 mm one-way speakers, while the Buds3 Pros fit snugly in the ear canal and have 10.5 mm two-way speakers and 6.1 mm planar diaphragm tweeters.

In addition to the improved sound quality, the new Buds of course use Galaxy AI combined with real Galaxy phones, for example, to improve the quality of calls and translate speech in real time, for example during lectures. They also adapt to the noise level of the environment by adjusting the intensity of the active counter-noise. Although touch functions can be replaced with voice commands in the new Buds to control music playback, they have also been updated to suit the new design. The earpiece arm – which Samsung calls the “Blade” – can be commanded to allow you to squeeze with your fingers or swipe up and down.

Buds3 and Buds3 Pro are promised five and six hours of battery life on a single charge with background noise, and a total of 24 and 26 hours using the charging case, although the readings may vary in actual use. Both headphones have an IP57 protection rating, which means they can withstand dust and a momentary immersion in shallow water, but they are not completely sealed. The color options for both models are silver and white.

The Galaxy Watch7 and Watch Ultra as well as the Galaxy Buds3 and Buds3 Pro are available for pre-order immediately and availability starts on July 24. More information about the Galaxy Ring’s pricing and availability in the Nordic countries will be announced later.
