Samsung released the foldable Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6 flagship phones

Novelty phones that have enjoyed themselves in numerous leaks do not really offer surprises and instead of major technical reforms, they focus on new features that utilize artificial intelligence.

Samsung has held the global Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris today. As expected in advance, both new phones with folding screens and new wearable technology were released at the event.

As the wittiest knickknattertons can already deduce from the model names, Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6 are the company’s sixth-generation folding screen phones. Both of the novelties have already been the subject of so many leaks that the actual release can no longer offer any real surprises, even if one piece of information in the latest leaks was incorrect.

The heart of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6 beats Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, and both use an Armor Aluminum frame and Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus2 protective glass on the cover and back of the phones. The system circuit and other hot components are cooled using vapor chamber technology, which is a first for Flip, and it is promised to be up to 60% larger than the last generation in Fold as well. The design has been filed in both models to be slightly more angular and at the same time slightly thinner and lighter. The IP protection of the structure has also been improved to level 48, where a new feature is protection against very small objects (1 mm or larger), i.e. there is still no protection for fine dust.

Artificial intelligence is of course strongly present again and there are new features that were not yet available in the Galaxy S24 collection. For the Fold6, Samsung highlights, for example, the Interpreter translation application that utilizes both screens, Google’s Gemini with its Circle to Search and overlay features, and a number of utilities focused on photography and images under the ProVisual Engine. With the new Sketch to image feature, you can draw an outline, which the phone turns into an image with the help of artificial intelligence using the selected style. The suggested replies feature, on the other hand, analyzes the content of the latest conversation in the messaging app and suggests a suitable automatic reply.

In Fold6, the dimensions of both the external and internal screens have been slightly changed and they are now wider than before, meaning that the lateral resolution has increased slightly. With the changes, the diameter of the external screen has increased by a tenth of an inch to 6.3 inches. The weight of the phone has dropped by 24 grams – the thickness is 1.3 mm smaller when closed and 0.5 mm smaller when opened. Unfortunately, the camera implementation has not undergone any technical changes, which means that the ultra splitter angle is unfortunately still fixed focus. Instead, Samsung says that it has focused on improving picture quality with updates on the software side. Battery sizes and charging speeds have also remained unchanged.

Unlike the Fold6, the shell-shaped Flip6 has not reduced in size at all. The weight has remained the same as the model, and the overall thickness has only decreased by a couple of tenths of a millimeter, mostly for design reasons. Contrary to what the latest leaks claimed, the Flip6’s cover display is still based on a Super AMOLED panel, meaning it has not been replaced with an IPS panel. The front screen can be used, for example, to reply to messages without opening the phone, using smart Suggested replies. The front screen, called FlexiWindow, now also offers more and more different widgets, and artificial intelligence features are promised to be present on the small screen as well.

As the rumors promised, the Flip6’s main camera is now equipped with a 50-megapixel sensor, but the ultra-wide-angle camera still does not have autofocus like its sister model. Unlike the Fold6, the battery has grown by 300 mAh, but the charging performance has not improved.
