Samsung seems to be further improving the update policy of its cheapest smartphones. The new Samsung Galaxy A16 would receive updates for six years. Not bad for a device that will cost around 200 euros.
‘Longer updates for Samsung Galaxy A16’
The Galaxy S24 smartphones were the first Samsung smartphones to receive a whopping seven years of support. The same goes for all high-end devices that have released since then, such as the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Cheaper phones like the Galaxy A15 get four major Android upgrades and five years of security patches.
With the next generation, the company seems to be further improving its update policy. According to website The Tech Outlook the Samsung Galaxy A16 will receive updates for six years. These include major upgrades to the operating system as well as security patches. So you can use the device for longer without worrying about hackers.
No other manufacturer has offered support for budget smartphones for so long. If the rumor is true, this new software policy will undoubtedly also apply to slightly more expensive mid-rangers in the future. Think of the Galaxy A56, which will succeed the Galaxy A55 in 2025.
There is a small catch: expensive smartphones like the Galaxy S24 receive a security patch monthly, the A15 only once per quarter. That will probably be no different for the Galaxy A16.
More about the Samsung Galaxy A16
The design of the Samsung Galaxy A16 was recently leaked. The smartphone looks a lot like its predecessor, with a large chin under the screen and an old-fashioned notch for the selfie camera. However, the device would be slightly thinner. The A16 will also get a slightly larger 6.7-inch OLED screen and runs on an Exynos 1330 or MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chip. This is mainly suitable for light tasks such as browsing and apps.
The Galaxy A16 will be released before the end of this year. The recommended retail price will probably be around 200 euros again. By the way, you can already get the Galaxy A15 for € 139, – in the house.
