Premium design and a brilliant display

The Samsung Galaxy A55 sports a sleek and refined design, inherited from its predecessor while becoming more bourgeois. The Gorilla Glass Victus+ back and aluminum edges give a solid and luxurious feel, while the subtly integrated photo sensors add a touch of modernity.

The screen, meanwhile, is a real treat for the eyes. Larger than that of the Galaxy A54, it offers a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display with remarkable fluidity thanks to its 120 Hz refresh rate. The careful calibration of the panel, whether in Vivid or Natural mode, guarantees vibrant colors and impressive contrast, for an immersive visual experience in all circumstances.

A camera that could be improved

While the Galaxy A55’s 50-megapixel main sensor produces perfectly decent shots in broad daylight, with good sharpness and satisfactory backlighting management, it shows its limits in low light, where digital noise quickly sets in.

The ultra-wide-angle and macro sensors, meanwhile, are clearly dispensable, offering disappointing results in terms of sharpness and detail. The unconvincing portrait mode struggles to properly cut out subjects, while the digital zoom, although usable at x2, quickly loses quality beyond that. The Galaxy A55, however, makes up for it in video, where it excels thanks to effective stabilization and faithful colors.

Solid autonomy and advanced software

The Galaxy A55 also impresses with its remarkable battery life, capable of reaching two days in moderate use thanks to its 5,000 mAh battery. If the 25 W fast charge is disappointing, the One UI 6.1 software, close to that of the Galaxy S24, offers a fluid and intuitive user experience, enhanced with welcome intelligent features, particularly in photo editing.

Finally, the presence of a few pre-installed applications is regrettable, but the promise of four major Android updates and five years of security patches ensures appreciable longevity for this mid-range smartphone.
