Thanks to the restriction maintained by the United States, the new top-of-the-line model will not survive without a fine-tuned edition for China.
In recent weeks, several things have been revealed about the soon-to-be-arrived new GeForce RTX video cards. Obviously, the majority of people are interested in the parameters of the top models, which is why most of the data is flowing about the RTX 5090 and 5080, one or the other seems quite plausible. Recently, for example, we received preliminary data about the expected power consumption thanks to Seasonic, the value of 500 W written for the flagship seems a little shocking, although in fact a factory-tuned RTX 4090 can already reach this value.
Only estimates are available for the specific clock rates, based on which the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 bring a pleasant step forward for the current generation; we are also a little worried about the amount that will appear on the price tags. However, there are conflicting rumors about the official release, and it could also be a modified version for the Chinese market.
GeForce RTX 5090D, but only next year
The announcement of the game-tuned RTX 4090, which is considered the pinnacle of the Ada Lovelace architecture, has not yet been disturbed by the US sanctions policy, nor has there been any thought that the controller should be made into an edition with a dumbed-down computing capacity for the Chinese market. This then took place, by disabling some of the stream processors integrated in the GPU and reducing the clock signals, the RTX 4090D was born, which still has quite an adventurous life path; if you really want to, you can arrange to get one yourself here in Europe.
The product strategy may be different for the Blackwell generation, where the engineers have more time, and because of this, it is conceivable that the Chinese version will differ from the normal edition at several points. Moreover, it is not certain that only the letter “D” distinguishes them from each other, let’s face it, an inexperienced user can easily be confused by the type designation that differs in only one character.
Data related to this is the expected release date, which a very well informed X user It will be done by January 2025. Or there will be no Chinese edition of the RTX 5090 this year, and this may also indicate that the start of the entire generation will be postponed to the beginning of next year. Of course, all this is not confirmed, and the top models of the new GeForce generations are usually announced by Nvidia at the end of the given year, it is possible that the debut will be timed for the CES in January. Maybe it doesn’t matter the date, due to the high prices and limited availability in the initial period, the majority of players are forced to wait, if they are not hunting for promotions involving the previous generation.
